Long Island parents, educators livestream nightly bedtime stories for kids
Devine explains the bedtime story effort is meant to temporarily replace the PTA’s Pick A Reading Partner program that was in effect prior to the schools’ shutdown — a national literacy effort that encourages people to read together and involves parents and grandparents reading to classes in person. Since they’re not in school, the effort has moved to Facebook.

Staying in Touch: Why Kids Need Teachers During Coronavirus School Closings
On the second day of her school’s COVID-19 related closure, sixth-grade teacher Elizabeth Raff sent her students a video through Google Classroom. In it, she talked about what she had been up to, including celebrating her son’s second birthday at home, and she told her students that she missed them and wanted to hear how they were doing. She invited them to send her an email, and she promised to reply. Within a few hours, her inbox was flooded.

CPS hands out over 500K meals in 3 days of coronavirus closures: ‘This is something great Chicago’s doing for us’
So far, CPS has handed out almost 90,000 meal packages, which each include three days’ worth of breakfast and lunch, for a total of more than a half-million meals.

Maps: LA & OC Families In Need Can Get Free Food At These Places While Schools Are Closed
Schools around Los Angeles and Orange counties have closed in an effort to prevent further spread of coronavirus.
As LAUSD officials pointed out, that wasn’t an easy decision, because many families depend on schools for meals, child care, and services for students with special needs.

Schools feed students during shutdown
The 33 school sites will serve meals free of charge for all St. Louis children 18 and younger from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday for the dates listed. No student ID is required.

Chino Valley USD Students Spread Hope During School Closures Due to COVID-19
The Chino Valley Unified School District posted a video of the Chino Hills High School Chamber Singers performing “Over The Rainbow.” The students were disappointed to miss the district’s Choral Festival. They recorded the song “with the goal of spreading hope and cheer during this difficult time.”
