Editorial: Third SC charter school authorizer increases odds for profiteering, failure

We warned that more still would follow if the Legislature didn’t close that by-then-well-known loophole in state law, which no one had ever imagined would allow private colleges to give themselves the extraordinary power to spend state tax money and encourage authorizer shopping, which undermines the whole idea behind charter schools: They get freedom from most public school rules in return for being closed down if they fail.
