Stop Unwanted Charter Spread on Long Island

The State University of New York has approved applications for the Academy Charter School chain to open schools in Brentwood and Central Islip—ignoring community voices and overriding local education experts.

Because charters can draw students from any Long Island district, public funds will follow those students out of their home districts—draining resources from the public schools that serve all children

One or two students going = losing a paraprofessional’s salary.

Three or four students leaving = losing a teacher’s salary.

The money follows the child, but the stranded costs remain.

Send your letter today to your state representatives and the Governor. Tell them charter schools are wrong for our Long Island communities. They are unaffordable.
