Tell the Senate: RFK Jr. is wrong for Health and Human Services

The nomination of RFK Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services puts America’s children at risk. In addition to discouraging parents from vaccinating their children, he has proposed slashing funding for medical research and drinking raw milk, which is dangerous to health, along with other conspiracy theories.

Tell your Senators that RFK Jr. should not be approved to lead HHS. You can send your letter now here.

The primary means by which state vaccine mandates are enforced is through enrollment in childcare and schools. Although he cannot change state law, the Secretary can influence parents and lawmakers, undermine the CDC vaccination program, and use his bully pulpit to hinder the development of new vaccines and medications. News agencies have reported his involvement in an anti-vaccination campaign during an outbreak of measles in American Samoa, during which over 80 people, mostly children, died from the disease.

We understand that some families abstain from vaccination for religious reasons and that those who are immunocompromised cannot be immunized. With mandates and high compliance, they are protected by “herd immunity.” When vaccinations go down, those who cannot be vaccinated, including young infants, are put at high risk.

Childhood diseases will run rampant in our schools. Write your Senators today. We must stand up to protect our children from a conspiracy theorist being in charge of our nation’s health. Our campaign begins today and will continue to the confirmation hearings.

NPE Abandoning X for the Blue Sky

We welcome Ray Sanders and Moira Kaleida to the NPE Board of Directors

Ray Sanders has extensive experience in teaching, educational leadership, and community development. As a principal, he developed the first high school DNA lab in the state of Louisiana and  The Creole Cottage Project, an innovative school-to-work program where his students built and renovated houses for the community. Most recently, his work has focused on educational equity and the privatization of public education. He is the author of Twenty-First Century Jim Crow Schools: The Impact of Charters on Public and Education and The Coup D’état of the New Orleans Public School District: Money Power and the Illegal Takeover of a Public School System.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Moira Kaleida has combined her academic knowledge, organizing background, and lived experience (as a student, teacher, parent, school board member, and wife of a teacher) to beat the drum of public education as the national director for the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools. Moira served on the Pittsburgh Public School Board, leading the policy and government relations committees. She served as a chief of staff member for a city council and a state representative in PA. In 2022, Moira was excited to join the inaugural board of Keystone Equality, advancing civil rights for LGBTQIA+ Pennsylvanians. Researching, understanding, and fighting school privatization is a lifelong commitment for Moira.
