The Network for Public Education Pleads with Congress to Protect our Children
The Network for Public Education is deeply saddened by the news that, once again, gun violence has taken the lives of innocent children and educators. The children, families, and all members of the Covenant School Community have our deepest sympathy as they mourn this horrific loss.
According to CNN, this is the 19th shooting at a school or university this year, resulting in at least one injury.
We call upon Congress once again to control access to guns, and institute red flag laws, background checks, and the mandatory safe storage of firearms.
No parent should live through this nightmare. The most fundamental right of every parent is to know that their children will return home safely when they send them to school.
