Laura Hancock: Anti-culture war candidates win three seats on Ohio State Board of Education

Among the many pockets of good news from the mid-term, we get this nugget from Ohio.

Voters elected three candidates to the Ohio State Board of Education on Tuesday who oppose fights over LGBTQ students in bathrooms and attempts to control how American racism is discussed in social studies classes.

The three were backed by the teachers union (a reminder of why some folks would like to break the unions and remove them as a force in elections). The president of the Ohio Education Association spoke about the three.

“The three individuals who won those contested races are all strong advocates of public education, they have strong records on that,” DiMauro said. “I would anticipate they would work closely with other members of the state board who have been pushing back on some of those (culture wars) attacks. How everything is going to play out still remains to be seen, because you still have an extremist faction that is pushing some of those resolutions. Some of those members are still there.”
