Holiday Greetings from Diane Ravitch and the Board of NPE
Dear Fellow Supporters of Public Schools,
On behalf of the board of the Network for Public Education and the NPE Action Fund, I want to wish you Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and our warmest wishes for 2017.
The year ahead will be challenging for those of us who support our democratically-controlled, community schools. For the first time in history, the power of the federal government will be used to undermine and harm them. It is our responsibility to protect what belongs to the community and resist any state or federal efforts to privatize our public schools.
Public dollars come from all taxpayers to support a common school system, with doors open to all. Most state constitutions have language that explicitly prohibits the use of public funds for religious or private schools. The constitution is on our side, the law is on our side, public opinion is on our side.
Let us resolve to work together and stand together against privatization. Let us together demand better public schools for all children, regardless of their zip code.
